The Prize Winning DARG Drone Laying Queen project was continued in 2016

Currently since January  2017, we have 98 prepared slides being examined by members. Each slide is being examined independently by two members

Around 100 queens were contributed this year and most have already been dissected and the spermathecae sectioned.

A virus analysis of each queen will also be made using the head and thorax.

Analysis of the spermathecae will be made by members over the winter.  As, in effect,   almost 200 microscopic assessments have to be made the process is likely to occuply most of the year.

ROLL OVER

The Neonicotinoid Debate

DARG members take the view that apiculture should be strongly guided by the latest, highest quality and well reviewed research.   There is also opportunity at meetings for informed discussion and exchange of opinion.

On this site are posted some latest, relevant publications.

Whatever the information shown,  it is intended for the furthering of our understanding of a highly complex and socially divisive topic.   Much more information is yet to be revealed as the effects of the EU two year ban are assessed.

PROGRAMME FOR 2017

(Coming soon)

On Sunday April 2nd  we will be guests of Quantock Beekeepers.

This will be a joint microscopy session to examine the remaining slides of the 2016 DLQ study.

We also  hope to have a demonstration by Somerset beekeeper, Roy White, showing how he obtains the excellent microphotographs that we have looked at in an earlier session.
